An independent record label cultivating soulful, percussive, sun-soaked South African deep house music. We protect the sound, develop the artist, distribute the master.

Born Themba Austin Khanyile in Soweto and now based in Johannesburg, Retro Africa is a self-taught South African deep house artist, producer, and audio engineer. His sound is a definitive listening craft — what we call [Grootman Music] in South Africa. It is sophisticated, soulful, and tailored specifically for long midnight drives and mature, South African deep house purists.
Bypassing short-lived club gimmicks, he spent three years in complete studio isolation from 2023 to 2026, quietly refining his sonic identity, hunting for his frequencies, and sculpting late-night, groove-driven atmospheres.
Marking a major personal and professional milestone, he released his landmark sophomore album, Midnight Architecture, on May 29, 2026 — arriving exactly one day after his birthday on May 28 as a gift to the culture and a statement of his fully matured sound. He is the founder and core creative force behind Mate Music Entertainment.
"My deep is not your deep. We don't chase trends. We master the records the dancefloor will still play in ten years."

Global Release: August 28, 2026

Every release on Mate Music Entertainment is mixed, mastered, and sonically sculpted in-house by Themba Austin Khanyile.
Our studio philosophy completely rejects the temporary loudness wars. We master for spatial depth, analog warmth, and smooth mid-tempo club transitions — ensuring the tracks deliver that smooth, luxurious long-drive atmosphere whether played on high-end home setups or premium South African deep house club sound systems.
All audio stem submixes submitted for engineering processing must maintain a mandatory -6.0dB Master Bus headroom float clearance ceiling inside the FL Studio engine to guarantee absolute acoustic translation across heavy club sound systems.

A: We strictly review mid-tempo, soulful, percussive South African deep house, private school amapiano, and atmospheric Afro-tech. We do not accept high-tempo commercial EDM, hype-driven club tracks, or vocal pop loops. Keep it mature; think long-drive vibes.
A: Submit unmastered, 24-bit WAV files only. Leave exactly -6dB of master headroom. Do not apply brickwall limiters or heavy master bus compression. We want to hear the raw dynamics and low-end separation of your mix.
A: No. Whether your blueprint is built in FL Studio, Ableton, Logic, or Cubase, we care about your ears, your groove, and your sound design — not your software.
A: Only if they are completely royalty-free or if you legally own the master rights. MME will not review or distribute tracks with uncleared commercial samples.
